Sticking with the water leak for now.
They finally left at around 6.00pm, still got one hole left in the path, but I said I'd fill that in as I cant have anymore time off.
Plus I could probably even get it level with the paving.

My underground water pipes are now a cobbled together collection of about a dozen fittings, bits of plastic pipe joining onto remaining pieces of the old iron pipe.
The final hole was filled three times, only to be dug out again as the hole filled with water, they seemed to be trying to do the minimum, but at the same time creating more work.

If the gas company was to work to similar standards there would be a lot of dead people.

It all seemed very amateurish to me.

Good grief pete, that sounds atrocious!!!
Will they allow you to fill your own hole? Won't it contravene some H&S/insurance small print somewhere?

Not them, this is a separate issue, but just another thing that's winding me up.

Heard two large bangs while on GC last night around 9.30pm.
Went to the front window and saw two young men walking fast down the road, so I went and had a look out front.
My garage window had been smashed, but no stone or ball to be found.
I guessed they did it in order to gain entry, a neighbour said she had seen them loitering all evening.

Anyway I rang plod, they said they would be round within four hours, so I settled down to wait.
By 4am, no show, so I went to bed.
Got a text message to ring them in the morning.

They then said they would come round between 4 and 5 pm today.

No show, a couple of phone calls later they sent me a text message with a crime number attached.

      Arn't out policemen wonderful.

Well he said dont fall down it.

But I just want the whole issue over and done with as quickly and cheaply, for me, as I can.
Already cost me one and a half days wages.

Sounds like a letter to Ann Barnes might be in order @pete (actually, thinking of her track record ... maybe not  )

Don't kid yourself - I know of one section of gas main that has had over 25 leaks in recent history, and kept getting patched and bodged; it was due to be fully replaced very shortly, however there were complaints about the impact on trade to an adjacent business, so guess what ---- it is going to get a repair once more and then the replacement reconsidered next January!!

Somehow, I would say that going BOOM! would have a fairly detrimental effect on business??

                  Just as an update.
I've now had a massive bill from Southern water.
Fot those that dont get this, we are supplied with water by South East Water, but the waste water goes to Southern Water, so we get two bills.
The waste is based on the meter charges from the supplier.

Now then, in the summer my biggest use of water is on the garden, topping up the pond, etc.
Southern water dont get a look in, but they charge me for disposal of that water.

                  Does this seem right?
I mean, I'm being charged for a service that they are not supplying.

Should I take this to the European Court for Human Rights, before we get out of the EU?

I think all of us who have meters are in the same boat @pete, but sadly I think it would be up to us to prove the amount of water used on the garden and therefore not sent to waste. That would obviously require a second water meter, and there is probably some rule about that not being allowed somewhere or other (the most likely being that they would have no way of stopping the secondary meter being used for domestic water)

But my thoughts are that it should be actually illegal to charge for a service you are not providing.

How they sort it out is down to them.
They started the whole cock up in the first place.
