I bought 4 Paul's Scarlet climbing roses from B&M. They were like the dried root ball ones in a bag with brown sawdust stuff. They had long white leggy shoots on them and some dead brown dried normal looking tiny buds. I planted them in a row and 2 of them now have green shoots coming from the crown but the other 2 just seem to be doing nothing at all.

    Have they perished?

By dried root balls one do you mean bare root roses?

If they were bare root roses did you soak them in water for 24 hours before planting?

If you didnt they just might be taking a bit longer to come alive after being dormant

If they were not bare root roses i have no idea lol

Sorry yeah bare root roses I meant haha. I did soak them but only for an hour as it said on the packet. B&M aren't great for plants though - bought 22 bare root strawberries and not ONE survived.

I trimmed the top of each stem as it said to cut it back once planted. When I did that, the wood in the middle of each stem was green but as it has been exposed it has obviously dried.

They should be fine then. It will just take them a bit longer :-)

Do you have a Poundland or Wilkinsons near you Rob as I've always found their plants much better than B&M, and they've had Pauls scarlet climber in both.
I gave up on B&M, bought loads from there but only a Dipladenia has survived.
Our Poundland has just had a fantastic new range of hardy perennials in, and Wilkinsons have a new range of Roses named after cities.
