Who is eating my veg ? ive noticed over the last two of days something has started feasting on two plants.
I think some of you may remember my plants are in a plastic green house that i got for my son and i'm new to all this :gnthb:
They were both young plants that only had two leaves and were about 2 inches tall one was a tomatoe plant and the other cauliflower.
Today i went in and they only had half the stems left :scratch: so whatever it is had a good feast overnight.
I dont think it can be slugs or snails as they are on the second shelf thats about 3ft of the ground.
I have noticed some green fly but can they do that much damage in two days they are not locosts :hehe:
Also i noticed young spider but i left him as he maybe my best friend with the green flies ?
The odd thing is on the first day whatever it is it seemed so clinical, i noticed the tomatoe plant had lost half a leave and it looked like it had been done in two clean bites and so clinical ?
Sorry for going on abit but i'm trying to give as much info as i can :gnthb: as some of you may know i did this for my little lad :thumb: and we have worked hard on this now.
It would be a shame if we started to lose everything we have done  thanks in advance Mike

Snails Mike W, You dont see them during the day! search under pots they love to hide in the lip, I would empty the lot out untill i found the little blighter's. Or you could put a few Pellets scattered around, even in the pots..

My money is on either slugs or snails Mike. You'd be surprised where the little blighters can get. I've found them in hanging baskets so 3 feet high will be a walk in the park for them. Check on the underside of the shelving, a snail could easily hide there.

Thanks guys you are so right and it was the last thing that i suspected :dh: i thought it cant be a snail or slug because surley they will go for the plants lower shelf.
I also thought they would be to heavey not to snap the stem and leave it intact :dh:
I just went out and lifted the platic beds and guess who was sitting under it :gnthb: [IMG]

Thanks i will I cant believe it was the last thing i suspect oh well we live and learn :hehe:
I was just thinking to myself and it may sound stupid but would it be worth greasing the poles with maybe something like vaseline or a grease ? to stop them climing up the poles ?

Just to add i am very aware of snails and slugs and keep my eye out and our small garden is paved.
The reason i am aware is because we have had german shepherd dogs for years.
We lost our last dog in January and have a new pup well she is 5 months now and is teething btw :lollol::shk:
Enough of the waffle but lung worm is a very high risk ATM and they get it by eating slugs and snail.
So i do keep a close eye out and i thought we did'nt have any due to it being paved but again i'm very wrong :(

Mike, glad you've found the reason. You'll be vigilant now! I didn't know that about lungworm so thanks for that not that my dog would eat them now but she was a puppy once and I never knew, still we were in a flat with no garden for the first few years with her.

Is there anything good about slugs & snails?

    cheers

My dog brings the snails and slugs in the house, but doesn't eat them, just gently picks them up in his mouth and usually runs upstairs and if the baby gate isn't closed, (don't have a baby it's for him) he's in the bedroom, I've lost count how many times I have had to change the bedding before going to bed and also following a snail/slug trail when I'm half asleep.
    Alex.
