    Hi,

I have a planting trough in a shaded area of my back garden. Am at a bit of a loss as to what kind of plants or shrubs would be best to put in it due to it being in an area where there is little sun.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Cheers

    Ray.

Depending on how big the trough is ..... yes hosta (i personally love them) and a lot of people suggest ferns.

I have just planted up in a shaded area myself but have used mainly annuals. Begonias and busy lizzies with Euonymus evergreen shrubs in the corners and back to give some height.

Photos are on my thread if you want to look. There are some hostas in the ground there too ....

Hostas, ferns as suggested, but also sarcococca (Christmas Box) and if the trough is big enough, a Fatsia Japonica or an Angelica (the latter is a short lived perennial so it wouldn't outgrow too quickly).
