Aw wow guys thanks for the tips! Such a lovely welcome!! :grphg:

My soil is quite sandy and so dry! I have dogs and they love to dig & always seem to knock down fences I put up around my gardening areas :gaah:

I was thinking manure was a good idea, but again, I don't want the terrors rolling in it! I am looking at mainly growing seasonal vegetables, flowers aren't ideal as I also have rabbits! No, I don't live on a farm lol.

Would topsoil not be a good idea then? :new:
I'm thinking of getting a soil tester maybe??

I also haven't composted!! I know, rookie move but it was a bit of a whim starting gardening, so I'm going to start one when I get a good bin. I think next year my garden will be great but for now I can prepare!

dont worry i didn't start composting till this christmas

and my soil is sandy and really dry I have barely done anything to the soil i just make sure i put compost in my planting holes. everything seems fine and loves it.

My cats dig and roll around in it too and end up all dusty but the most plants i have put in the less they are doing it

I'm only just going to start composting too. I figure, better late (all those wasted years of not gardening!) than never :) Good luck!

I'm not too bothered about dusty dogs, more like stinky muddy dogs :roflol::doggieshmooze:

          I'll give this hole digging a go!:spinning:

            Compost, compost, compost!!

It is so easy, you don't need expensive "shop" bins.... Old pallets make great walls. If you've lots of space, multiple cubes, or divide a single cube. You want at least two - one in, one out. Ideally three - in, wait, out! Probably best bit of advice when composting is to turn it. I have a filling slot, turn to the waiting, then again to the using slot. So each heap is turned twice. If it's thin enough to cut with secateurs, it will compost.

:coffee: Sorry, bit of a compost-lover. I'll get my coat!!:heehee:
