What container mix brand do you use and why

Are supermarket brands worth it like QDs, Asda and so on

Peat or peat free so confused at moment not sure what to choose.

    Hi Adam,

First of all it depends on what type of plants you're planning to grow, whether you need an ericaceous compost (for Camellia, Rhododendron, Azalea, Pieris etc.).

If you're just planting "normal" plants then I use normal multi-purpose compost and refresh the top 2/3" every year.

As for brands I use Wilkinsons own, as I can't get to any garden centres. I've used it for years and never had any problems with it.

This is also peat free which I prefer to use, as I don't agree with digging up the countryside and damaging the environment just to grow plants.

I'm sure you'll get other replies aswel, but, it's really down to personal preferences.

Hello Adam , I use peat based compost from B and Q or Wickes ( or from a Nursery near where I work ). Never been brave enough to try peat free multi purpose compost .

B&Q Verve or Wickes multi purpose compost or B&Q ericaceous for acid loving plants. If in a larger container then I mix some John Innes No 3 in with the compost.

I've just been sticking to easy to grow plants I learned the hard way last year by buying loads of plants and just sticking them in the garden.

So this year all my plants were put into containers with QDs and some slow release fertiliser and they seem so much better of thanks for the replies.
