I have the most beautiful acer ..i am sorry I do not know the correct species...but it had the most beautiful leaves that go from white to cream and eventually green ..but it has serious windburn... will it survive.... the leaves are so crisp, and brown, but on having a closer look i think i can see some new shoots..but the tree in general looks so awful..having been so beautiful...does it stand a chance ?...Many thanks

Exactly this happened to my (red) acer 2 years ago. Almost all the leaves dried up and the whole thing looked terrible. It's not a huge tree, so to protect it now I cover it over when I know it's going to be windy (esp. from the north) with a bit of thin, light cotton sheet. I just swathe the top and keep it watered at the bottom. Of course, if the wind persists over several days, like recently, you might need to release it for a while so it doesn't get scrunched up. If your acer is in a container, just try moving it to a spot which is out of the wind and a lot of direct sunlight, and don't let it dry out. If yours is a large tree, then I guess it will be strong enough to recover but it may take a while. Hope it does. Lindy.

I had an acer that suffered terribly last year from wind burn. I put it in the greenhouse and its fine now,

The problem is now i didn`t know they dislike wind when i bought it ,and its very windy here so i am frightened to fetch it out of the greenhouse :flag:

The winds have been very hard on the acers this year .... I have quite a number suffering from the same condition
Hopefully as the weather improves so will the acers :)

Some cultivars seem to handle it better than others, though. I have a "Bloodgood" which is actually not looking too bad, considering. The green dissectum next to it (I think it's a "Viridis") is looking terrible.

The winds we have had this year have damaged even large sycamores. Very many trees in the area, including a new birch and a hornbeam of mine, have been very badly blasted by winds - leaves shriveled and brown. I am also hoping that they will recover because at the moment they look terrible.
