I have eight chilli plants from seed. Could I plant four together in a large pot do you think? I want to keep them in the conservatory so don't want a large number of pots. Can't bear to throw plants out.

Don't know about anyone else but I keep them one to a pot. Maybe you can get away with two in a very large one, but I'd say 4 is pushing it. Kristen will know, he's grown lovely chiili plants though I think they were one to a pot also.

I think it depends a bit on the final size of the plants.

My Demon Red are only going to grow to about 12", so clearly could be in a decent sized tub together.

But some varieties grow pretty big ... check the seed packet, or good old Google? :)

i have grown chilli's very successfully in the past but only one to a pot since they tend to branch out or should that be fill out. It all depends on the size of the pot imho . But if your using your standard size pot i would suggest one per pot.. it is not a good idea to bunch plants close together , since this can cause disease and mould etc.... just my take on this i speak from experience.

    cheers.

Thank you all. I am going to put them in individual pots. They are all outside noe anyway as it is far too hot in the conservatory. It doesn't say what height they grow on the packet Kristen but they do say 8 inch pots so they can't be huge. One is Pinnochio's nose and the other is Inferno.

Hmmm ... Pinnochio's nose probably only needs a small-ish pot, but the only useful article I found about it suggests it needs some scaffolding to contain it!

For Inferno T&M site says 8" pots - couldn't find any other references to height / size of plants.

:hehe:Kristen i see what you mean about the scaffolding. I had some 7 inch pots so they are in those now. I left two outside and still have the others in the conservatory. I am not convinced chillies will like our night time climate even if it is warm during the day. I want to dry the pinnochios nose if they grow and I get a decent harvest. I've nipped the tops to bush them a bit. Thanks Kristen for your trouble :gnthb:
