I planted a Beurre Hardy Pear Tree some 7 years ago.
I fed it on a regular basis on Grow-Sure and 2 or 3 other products over the years with no great return of fruit produce.
The most fruit the tree produced in one season was 6 pears.:frown:.
The end of last year I decided to give the tree a good hair cut as previous years I was only pruning the tree of long spindly branches.

I had a think to myself,' I think I am feeding this tree to grow more foliage,it's getting taller, over 10 ft high and loads of branches and leaves, very little fruit'.

I made the decision to cut from the canopy of the tree 4 ft, to let the sun and light come through to all the branches of the tree, from top to bottom, great result:dbgrtmb:.

This year there is an abundance of young fruit from the top to the bottom of the tree, not 6 young pears, more like 60.:dbgrtmb:.

So my decision has been the correct one, thank God,
If it hadn't worked I think the Wife would have cut something off me:gaah:,

for cutting 4 ft off her Pear Tree..

      Excellent result @music

I know the year I took the loppers and hand saw to my apple tree it rewarded me with masses of fruit. Hard fruit trees do seem to like a good crew cut rather than a delicate trim.

Now .. what on earth will you do with all those lovely pears!? :heehee:

I've heard of pear cider, but never pear wine - sounds lovely .. just don't do the tree naked (neighbours and all that :heehee: )
