    Hello all,

I have spent the last 5 years of my life removing concrete and rubble from our 80 foot garden and am hoping to create a mixture of zen and allotment to take up my spare time.

I'm not very green fingered so will no doubt be asking endless questions.

    Jim

      Thank you all,

@M I'm still debating whether I actually class as mature (usually being told off with the children). I'm studying a BSc (Hons) in computing and IT, taking the software development route with the open uni. I'm near the end of the first year, it's been good fun so far and has given me loads of time to get upto mischief with the children.

If you are over 21, you are a mature student :heehee:

Open University - good for you and well done for surviving first year! How long is the course for?

Yes, I'm holding very tightly to the last months of my 20's before I go to the next decade up! It was good fun trying to stay motivated for the first year, just have to keep the motivation up for another 2 years then I should have a BSc. I would like to do an MSc afterwards although I'm thinking of applying to UKC for that one (when I get there.

I didn't think of stacking it neatly although there isn't enough room in our garden for a full scale replica of the great wall of China. I cleared the majority of it using a 4' x 3' x 2' trailer (about 15 or so full trailer loads), followed by an overflowing 12 yard skip, since then I've discovered another pile about 5'x5' and a couple of feet high.

I hate concrete and rubble now!

Don't panic, the transition is quite painless ... it's the later ones you may have to think a bit deeper about ;)

Wishing you the very best with your BSc (Hons) Degree :dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb:

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum

I can empathise with the concrete and rubble after 6 years of trying to sort my back lawn I gave up and decided earlier this year it had to go.... Little did I know at the time, I would spend 8 hours on my day's off for a month, hacking away at concrete and lifting out rubble from a 5ft deep fishpond that I didn't even know existed! all under my lawn, I left the original patio I also uncovered in situ.. The lawn is now a courtyard......

But saying that the sheer hard work that I've put into creating my courtyard style back garden is well worth it, as soon as I come home come into the back garden (I don't use my front door, tis quicker to use the back door from were I park my car on the drive) it brightens my day, more so when I've just come home from work, 12 hour shift's in a dementia unit....

My knowledge of gardening and growing, is well hum.... If I like something and a brief read of conditions/size sounds like it suits tis a case of stick it in and if it grows it grows and I'm happy, if it doesn't it's a case of shrug the shoulders and choose something else....
