Hello, I'm new to the forum and quite new to gardening too. I don't have much knowledge of plants but I do do my garden all throughout the summer. I have a quick question. I planted tulips last year and as you all know they gone now. I did some research and left them all in the ground until all the leaves turned yellow and dry. Now my question is. Now that i am digging them out and storing them to plant next year (I'm storing them in a box with newspaper so that not one bulb touched the other one) do I split the bulbs as each one bulb and turned into about four or five. Here is a picture of what I mean. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1435515752.914336.jpg

    Hi Mania,
    Welcome to Gardeners Corner :)

Can I ask why you are digging them out now?

I would leave them in as they should be planted anyway from this autumn. You can't plant tulips " next year", to flower next year.
The ones you've already dug out, I would plant them around 10 inches deep, that usually strengthens the bulbs.

    Thanks.

Because I read on a lot of websites that they last longer and come back better if you dig them out replant them in October or November. I read that if you leave them in the ground they don't come back year after year?

      Hello Mania28 :)

Split them up and replant in the Autumn. As others have said it's just as easy to leave them in the ground.

Thanks JWK. It took me ages to dig them all up separate them and pack them all away do I can keep them over the next few months. However, I do now have three times the amount of bulbs for autumn :)
