Right, I'm off to the nursery at 9am in search of bedding for a side bed by back door, mainly shaded with some roses already there. Not a huge busylizzie fan. Any ideas????

Any plant, perennial, annual, whatever, that will make a lovely shgow this year.

Perennial geraniums, alchemilla mollis, ferns, hostas, periwinkles. Can't think of any more at moment, but hope that helps! Enjoy your shopping!

I'd put a pinch or two of Night Scented Stock seed in the back of the bed, around the roses. The plants look drab, but they have do what their name suggests! I don't think you will find any plants though.

Tagetes patula (French Marigolds) may help to keep the bugs off (they deter Whitefly, dunno about aphids), and Candula (English Marrigolds) will attract hoverflys which will eat the aphids on the roses.

6 minutes past 9 ... probably no use then?!

Would it not be best to ask at the nursery?
If for example plant x is suggested as being ideal, what will you do if they don't have it?
By asking when you get there they can advise you in respect of what they actually have.

I am constantly pestering the poor staff at the nursery, and thought it might make a change to go in and go straight to what I was after. The help everyone gave me on here when I was making my rear bed was so helpful.

Sorry - had visit from family from hell this weekend!!!

I got some periwinkle to grow around the edge, the really small pretty kind. Not sure how it will do but giving it a go.

I've pinched a bit of the lady's mantle and put that in, and some tobacco plants at the back, with some pelargoniums too, but again not sure how they'll do.

I was desperate to get the bed looking decent before family arrived because it is the first bit of gerden you see. As it turned out they weren't particularly fussed about gardens - ho hum! Some people are weird!
