Bought outside of a cottage

Can anyone help me identify this please. It is about 5 ft tall and I bought it from a stand outside of a cottage in a country lane near my house.

 

Could be a Sunflower, that one Ben.

 

I had thought that. My partner and I bought it last year and it died off completely over winter. Would it come back if it was a sunflower?

 

No. Leaves look too glossy for a sunflower to me.

 

Yes , there are perennial sunflowers, (Helianthus) which grow to 6 ft in height and flower from late July and August onwards.

 

I thought the same as I grow "lemon queen" the leaves look very similar but on mine so much smaller , we need a flower to help us out
