As I'm relatively new to this gardening addiction (no other word for it in my case!) I thought it would be good to ask everyone what their most favourite or successful plants are.

We are making the garden of our new home our own, and I have come across some fantastic plants so far, of course all of which I want! I have had so much useful advice from here, and have just made a whole new bed solely with advice from you wonderful lot!

So could you tell me what your favourite plants are, which give you the best value or enjoyment and why? What does well for you and what are brilliant all-rounder plants that will do well in any circumstance, or give good cover quickly? Just a few examples!

We have a south east facing garden, on chalk, and can pretty much find all conditions somewhere in our garden.

Would love to hear your highly rated species!

The best value for money plant in my opinion are Pieris-they have something of beauty all year round.

But my favourite-that's a different question, and as I am sure you already know about me, is the Peony. It matters not a jot to me that it is in flower for such a short period, the brightest flames burn shortest. When it is in flower, nothing else compares.

Next favourite are roses, and then, because they are just the most cheerful of all, daffodils.

There are lots of plants that I love, I have a lot of them in my garden-or at least those which do well where I am, I have.

    Hi Jim and Vicki'

I have so many favourites, I love all plants really.
I have to say I particularly love highly scented plants and flowers. I love to get the lovely perfume smells when I am working outside. Heaven :)

Lilacs, sweetpeas, delphiniums, foxgloves, oh everything!

Favorite climber has to be wisteria, with the long purple flowers in the spring time.

Favorite Shrub is a ceanothus with the blue flowers, which insects just love

Favorite 'bedding plant' has to be polyanthus/primulas used in winter bedding displays

Favorite type of planting is perennials, which I especially like the ornamental poppies in the summer, and helebores in the winter. I find gardening with perennials some of the easiest.

Bulbs has to be agapantus, and cala lily, which are a bit special. Tubas has to be peonies, which I have one in full bloom in the garden at the moment.

I could go on, but there is just one more I must mention, sweet peas, I think the smell is just divine, and the best bit is, the more you cut the flowers for indoors, the more flowers appear!

Enjoy your garden! It'll just get better and better!

Wow - far too many to mention. I have quite a few on my want list at the moment too :)

I do though have a special thing for lillies and lupins, which I grow out the front. Lupins never last past one season for me though (no idea why) so have to keep buying them but think they are worth it !

    Hello Jim & Vicki

I couldn't pick a favourite - it depends what month it it.

I love my daffodols in the spring - really cheers me up
The rhododenrons and azaleas really do it for me - such sensational splashes of colour
I love the roses - they just say summertime
In autumn I love anything that gives good autumn colour - some of the azaleas do, and sumach (rhus) trees are just spectular
The winter flowering helebores give great value from Nov til May
    And all the fabulous perennials.
I think I just love them all.
And I love all my vegetables too.
    Enjoy your garden.
