    Grumpy old bloke time ...

Is it just me or has Chelsea Flower Show turned into some kind of exhorbitantly expensive posh landscape architects heaven? I stopped going when it turned into some kind of kitch flower version of wave of dire telly chef programmes which the TV coverage now mimics.

It seems to have lost all sense of soil and a spade and well .... gardening.

    So sad in my opinion.

I quite agree ap, my brother and i love to watch the chelsea flower show but are so disappointed this year, all they do is talk and show hardly any of the gardens.

I disagree. Maybe the TV coverage was a bit dire, I didn't watch many of the programmes this year through lack of time, and when I did it was on iplayer so I was able to skip past the annoying celebrities bits. If we are talking about the actual Show then I quite like the idea of having a few really expensive show gardens that are completely unpractical and unaffordable. It is an indulgence but some of the ideas rub off, I guess no one goes away from the show and wants to recreate a complete garden, but maybe one or two ideas might form the basis of something newer and better. I personally would not like to have some of the posher gardens at all, but most of the show gardens are reasonably practical, its just a few that are extreme and we do need people to push the boundaries on design.
