Sounds poo Rosa, hope it gets sorted and isn't the beginning of a list of issues. Might be worth a call to the previous owner on the log book to ask what the condition of the car was when they owned it. People usually trade in/sell cars for a reason, usually negative ones unfortunately.

thanks all for comments, this car had just gone through its mot they put a new exhaust on it and brakes, when we bought rover it was a trade car and had no bother with that these past 2 years, its probably just something small i hope, the last owner was a lady mind that means nothing, will find out tommorow when it goes on machine and let you all know thanks, im hoping its not going to be a line of issues with it as i will be most upset.

Rosa, your Grandon looks so cute in the back of your car:thmb:

Sorry though to hear about your problems. If they don't get it sorted I would ask them for your money back because you don't expect that to happen:( Years ago when we were looking for another car we were told that a lot of cars that are standing on forcourts for months start to have starting problems because the cars had been unused for so long it affected the batteries so when the cars came to be driven there were problems:( This was a few years ago so it might be a problem that has been sorted.

Keep us posted as to how you get on tomorrow:thumb:

Soft top with Air Conditioning, now that is posh :D .:gnthb:

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't change the Engine Management System as well (that's the computer that makes sure everything is working ok) 'cause it sounds to me like it's telling fibs about what's wrong. Not that I'm a mechanic or anything, but it must be a wierd problem if a fault in the AC causes the problems you've described. :cnfs:

Anyway, I hope they get it sorted out quickly (and don't try to charge you) :)

hi doogle thanks, arghh well while i was there they did do something with system to knock out them lights but when i went to start it all the lights came back on so they decided it was best they kept the car and fix the problem, they must be waiting for a part from renault cos i havnt heard from them as yet, i have a 28 day warranty so wont be charged, lets hope when i get it back i can get on enjoying the car as i only had it 2 days.

Rosa,I would ring the garage if I was you.If they are anything like the garages round this way they won't do the ringing as it costs them money in phone calls. You want the car back as soon as possible so that if there is anything else wrong with it you will spot it.If you still have problems after the 28 day warranty I am sure you can still get something done as you have had problems right fromn the start.Don't let them fob you off and let us know how you get on:thumb:

Modern cars have such sophisticated ECUs, which don't only look after the engine these days, they look after all sorts. They pick up data from loads of sensors, and compare the readings against so many factors, that nowadays it only takes the slightest little sensor misreading, loose wiring connection or bit of damp in a connector to upset them. Luckily they are sophisticated enough to tell the mechanic exactly where to start looking for the fault, so rectification should be quick and easy (for a mechanic at least).

The trouble is, the fault doesn't have to be permanent for the light to come on and stay on. My car once told me that the Lambda sensor (a thing that measures oxygen content in the exhaust gases) had failed. All that had happened was some water had got into the connector when I hosed the car down. The car had decided that just because the signal was iffy while the connector was wet, it should ignore that sensor and run the engine in limp mode (where it effectively guesses the necessary fuel and air settings) until I reset the ECU. Fortunately in my case, because my car is getting on, resetting the ECU simply involves disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, but newer cars don't work like that so the garage has to do it with their special computermabob thing.

hi clueless, went to the garage to pick car up and the guy took it out on test run, its had 2 parts put in it and the light on the dashboard is back on, ive taken the car home and going to see how it runs, it seems ok starting straight away, they have tested it on a machine and cant find any other faults they really dont know why the light has come on the other 2 stop lights have gone off, will run it this week and take it back in, my hubby was wondering iff its a bulb that has gone that would make this light stay on.
