jazmine yes im lucky the tyre didnt blow up i was driving along slow held all the cars up with the emergency flashes on i was pretty scared but i thought it was the engine had no idea it was the tyre ripping apart.

clueless yes your right that car should of had a spare, i think he felt teribble mind at least he came straight over so i cant complain, i never heard any noise of the puncture the car was just making a noise it honestly didnt sound like it was coming from the wheel. well im pleased it wasnt me changing the tyre hehe and there wasnt even a jack in the car, just aswell he had a friend that has a garage not far from were i was,
will be pleased when i get my car back, joined AA homestart this morning, iff i break down will get a courtesy car and iff im away from home they will put me up in a hotel got the best package

Was it one of the front tyres that bust? If a back one goes you usually know about because the car develops a mind of its own and starts snaking about all over the place, paying little attention to what you do with the steering wheel. The fronts have more weight on them (because the engine weight is there), so as long as you're not doing brands hatch, it can be very difficult to tell if the car has power steering, as I found out one day when I did about 50 miles on a flatty. The only thing I noticed was that the steering was pulling ever so slightly to one side.

clueless it was the front tyre, after a while i felt as iff the car was slowing up and mind the steering did feel odd but i honestly didnt think it was the tyre all my years of driving this has never happened to me so i wouldnt of thought that it was the tyre going, there was black dust along the road off the tyre, mind i must admit i had a good laugh

Oh Rosa I feel ashamed to admit that this is the first time I read your thread sorry.

When I realized that your 'new' car was a Renault I started to feel dread in my bones more so when I saw you have been having problems with the engine management light!

We brought a Renault Scenic in April 2007 we paid a cash deposit and the rest to be paid when we picked it up later on in the week where it would have a full MOT and tax on it. When we got to pick it up the car hadn't the full MOT on it and Bob went mad but we needed the car as the boys had a big LAN party to go to and our little corsa couldn't fit their computer gear and their camping stuff in so we said we would bring the car back after our event but any repairs needed for the MOT the garage had to do for free which I made sure went in writing lucky for us it failed the MOT because of oil on the engine!

The very first day we took it out the management light came on and loads of smoke from the engine we took it back to be booked in but they couldn't find anything other than the light wrong with it. Things kept happening smoke from the engine, loss of power, lights on really bad, we had only a 28 day warranty too but because I made the sales man put in writing the that everything must be paid for by the garage we managed to not spend a penny on the car but the garange manager was far from happy about this.

We ended up borrowing two cars a brand new little car which was too small for us and then a Picasso which we borrowed for 6 months because that's how long it took for them to bite the bullet and repair the car it ended up with a new engine, turbo unit and wiring thousands of pounds but not for us but the garage for selling it to us.

The real problem to why it took so long to fix was that there was only one mechanic that could work on diesel engines and none could figure out the complex wiring system of the Renault it had to go back and fore to the Renault garage for costly check-ups!

Bob has since found out on the internet that Renaults are renown for these faults but thankfully the car has caused us no troubles since being fixed but would I ever buy another Renault noway! Nor from the dealship STONEACRE who still to this day keeps ringing us and wanting to know if we are interested in buying a new car or want to book our MOT with them!

Fingers crossed that yours gets fixed too Rosa but I really don't see why it should cost you any money because the problem was there before you brought it, try and get any extra costs you have had to pay back from the garage.Hel.xxx.

I don't think the problem is Renault specific. I firmly believe that while newer cars have many advantages over older ones, they have more stuff to go wrong with them. My last car (ok not that new at R reg) was nothing but trouble. I've heard tales of woe regarding all the manufacturers. The thing is though because we (quite rightly) expect stuff to work, we don't shout about it when it does, so we get a skewed opinion because we only here about when things go wrong.

Specifically on the Megane theme, my mate had an R reg one that he'd had since brand new. It never gave him any problems at all (other than basic service items). He finally lost it about 2 years ago, when his wife won it in their divorce settlement:)

Choose a day that you want it sorted by at the latest, then tell the garage that sold you the car that if it isn't sorted by that date, you will exercise your rights under the Sale of Goods act 1990 (as amended) to demand a full refund. If they fob you off, tell them that as you have given them plenty of opportunity to rectify the problems, if it goes to court, the court will inevitably lean to your side.

There will almost certainly be no need to take any such action, but if you drop the appropriate terms into the conversation, they will know you mean it, and will pull their fingers out. They will blame the Renault garage, but you can just point at that's their problem not yours. It is their responsibility (under the law, as set out in the Sale of Goods act) to arrange the repair, replacement, or refund as the goods are not of 'serviceable quality' or 'fit for their intended purpose'. Let them lean on the Renault garage on your behalf. Under the Sale of Goods act, YOU get to choose between effective repair, replacement or refund. The fact that you have chosen to let them repair it doesn't affect your rights, in fact it goes in your favour as it demonstrates that you've been patient and reasonable. If the repair is not effective (ie it fails again within a short time, or is not fixed in the first place), you still get to choose between repair, replacement or refund.

You shouldn't need to actually go down that route, but if you let them know that you know this, you will be moved from the 'order consumer who doesn't know their rights so we can do what we like' category, to the 'this person knows how to beat us in a legal case and will cost us lots of money if we don't sort it' category.

A friend of mine used to work as a mechanic for a Volvo dealership. He looked at my car and told me the most common point of failure is some ball joint in the fron suspension. Their workbook said it takes a full day to replace them, but they would do them in 20 minutes, skive for the rest of the day, and then charge 8 hours labour plus parts.

I hope it cures the problem.

Renaults do seem prone to electrical isues, I had a brand new hired renault traffic once, I was literally the first hire from delivery and driving along the motorway and the windows simply refused to lift, the replacment had more warning lights lit up than a cityscape and this too was a newish vehicle.

That said All the vehicles ive owned have had isues, the thing that sets them apart is how good the dealers are at fixing them.

pro gard lets hope so, was talking to the taxi driver yesterday he said his brother has a cleo and has had nothing but bother with his electrical faults yet hes got one and his is fine never had any bother, i guess with these renaults there best going to a renault dealer when these warning lights come up.
