    Hi All

This plant grow in lumps, and red flowers bloom on end of July or August. The flower lasts for about 3 - 4 weeks. I heard they are originally from South Africa but forgot the name of the plant.

They go yellow and then brown after October, so look messy. Would it be better to cut them off, or just leave them as they are during the winter?

      Thank you JWK.

Are they better be cut down when they go brown after September October, or better just left as they are through the winter?

I remove all the old leaves in Winter, but in a very cold part of the world it might be better to leave them on as protection, until Spring.

I just leave them to be honest and then remove all the brown foliage in the spring when the new shoots are starting to appear

Leaving them as they are, they seem to go really ugly. The huge leaves turn to light brown mass, and lay flat all over the lawn. I used to cut them down, but it is a quite a chore, and just wondering if it affects the plants next year growth, but so far seems not bothering. Just wondered how other people do about it.

We have a lot and always cut them down in December. :blue thumb: If they flop onto your lawn and may do damage to it then cut them back earlier. They should really be able to stand away from the lawn until November.

I usually cut mine back to about six inches as soon as they finish flowering then on the spring I sprinkle chicken pellets amongst the clumps and then the rain washes them down into the root system.Yours are possibly flopping because the clump has got too large and needs thining out.I usually do this as well in the spring as they are starting to reshoot after the winter.

Mine usually goes down with rust, so often doesn't flower well.

Maybe it is time to divide them this year? Last time when I divided them was 5 year ago. Will give some feeds as well, but they seem very vibrant even in the poor soil and partial sun.
