For the past 2 days, whenever I click on anything, e.g. new posts or a link, there is quite a wait before it connects. This is not occurring on other sites I visit so I am wondering if it is a site problem.

    Anyone else here experiencing this?

Actually, just now, I have a sign come up saying something about error and Javascript console. (?) I don't even use Java since it is notoriously problematic.

Good afternoon @rosebay what browser are you using my friend:smile:Java Console is a simple debugging aid that redirects any System.out and System.err to the console window. It is available for applets running with Java Plug-in and applications running with Java Web Start.;)

Hi @rosebay I am using Chrome but I have found this information on Firefox It might help you

If you have the Web Developer Toolbar installed, do the following to prevent the Error Console from popping up:

(If the Web Developer toolbar is not visible, you can also access the same parameters via the Tools/Web Developer/Options/Options menus in the Firefox menu bar).

      1. Click on the "Options" icon in the Web Developer toolbar.

      2. Click on "Options" in the drop-down menu.

      3. Click on the "Miscellaneous" icon

      4. Make sure that all the boxes are unchecked in the "Warnings and Errors" menu box.

Now the Error console will stop popping up when you go to a site. You can always check the boxes to display the Error Console later if needed.

I will do that but, as I mentioned, it is only on this one site
Thanks for this post. I don't have the web developer toolbar but went to options and it has general, search, contents, applications, privacy, security, synch and advanced. Checked under all those sections and didn't find a "warnings and errors" menu box.

As a lot of you know I only use a mobile, but, I too have been having problems for about the last five days or so.
It just keeps closing down on me and going back to my phones main screen especially if I'm trying to load photos.

Also, as Rosebay says it's only happening on here.

I'm a bit suspicious at the moment cuz I remember a similar thing happening a few months ago, and admin were saying " nothing to do with us " and then the week after a whole brand new site emerged with new ( rubbish, badly designed ) games and new background colours, fonts etc appeared.

I can't help but wonder if the same things happening again.

We've been here before on more than one occasion. :doh:Don't make any adjustments to your computer yet @rosebay this is more than likely a site issue. I've had some issues as well but until another member speaks up I'm never sure if it's GC or my computer as it's getting old and cranky. :)

If they are, I assure you that we are unaware of it in the office - maybe @Webmaster can shed some light?

I am having no issues at my end (was pretty much offline for the past two days after a power spike took out my 6 month old router [not a happy fat controller!] - since putting the new router in place this evening, everything including GC is loading instantly)

fat controller - any idea what the lagging could be then for some of us here? I thought it might be to do with javascript console since this has popped up here (in an error box) since the lagging. However, I have not installed anything to do with java since I know is is glitchy.

JavaScript is not Java - the two are not related. Java is a programming language or software platform that originated from Sun Microsystems, and now is part of Oracle (I think); in fairness, I have Java installed on all my machines and have never had an issue with it. Indeed, Adobe Flash is much more of a concern than Java.

However, I digress..... JavaScript is essentially the programming language that is used for websites across the world, and is an interactive language that allows the end user (you and me) to interact with the website (make our posts on forums etc); without it, we would be stuck only being able to read pages and not make any input of our own.

There are so many things that could be causing lag, it is very hard to determine what the issue is you are having, however there are a number of things you can try - one of them may well solve the problem, however you might never know which step it was that cured the problem.

            Try:

            Clearing cookies
            Clearing browser cache
Clearing temporary internet files - CCleaner is an excellent, free program that will take care of all three for you.

De fragment your hard drive (either use the Windows disc de-fragmenter or download Defraggler, which is another free program that is very good indeed)

Make sure your PC is not running too many programs on startup (CCleaner can do this for you too) - most programs that get installed have a habit of installing a file that executes when you start your PC up, and then runs in the background (system tray) waiting for you to use the related program; the theory is that this allows you to have a faster start time on the related program, but the reality is that the more of them there are the slower the PC gets as it is running programs all the time that it simply does not need to.

One other thing that can slow some websites down is having programs (including Java) that need to update; even if you don't use them or intend to use them, it is actually more harmful to prevent them from updating, not least as any security flaws will not be patched; it is vitally important that you ensure all software updates are done as soon as you can.

It could also be that your Internet Service Providers servers are struggling to connect you to GC - - Virgin Media used to be terrible for updating their DNS servers at one time, and I am sure they are not alone. Essentially, when you type a website address, the DNS (Domain Name Servers) go looking for the physical 'address' of that website - - for example, the Daily Mail website (dailymail.co.uk) has an address of 195.234.240.212 - if you type that sequence into your address bar, it will take you straight to the website. It could be that your ISP still has an expired address for the GC server, and if that is the case it is going to the 'last known' address and then being redirected to the new location (a bit like your mail going to your old house and being forwarded on), which causes a delay.

I know of a cure if it does turn out to be your DNS server, however I'll hold off on that one until we do the simpler stuff first.

Finally, it could be that you are the first of us to be experiencing the problem, and it may deteriorate for us all; this can happen sometimes when there are long threads (such as the wakey wakey thread); we can sometimes resolve this by closing the long thread and starting a new one - however, if that doesn't work then we need to get the tech support guru on the case.
