I recall the late Ronnie Barker's spoof weather forecast:

"Good evening, well, it will be cold in Mold, cool in Goole, dull in Hull and in Lissingdown - you are advised to carry an umbrella."

Out of all of them I like the BBC. Let's face it it is a forecast not a guarantee and they are all prone to errors. At least the BBC are professional and adult. Some of the other weather forecasting on other channels look like sets from Playschool and the presenters seem actually clueless.

@JWK - What are you expecting from competition, guaranteed better weather?? :snork: After all we got better water, electric, gas and train service once privatisation and competition was introduced :snork:

I was kind of thinking along the same lines, its the BBC s way of putting two fingers up at the government.
The BBC needs to be reigned in, in my opinion, but if they go down this road, then the licence fee should be scrapped altogether.

        No, of course there isn't.

A bit like there is only London in the S.E.;)

Actually, Pete, I think it's the other way around:dunno: The Government forced the issue of free licences to people over a certain age, which came out of another fund, and dropped it on the BBC using pressure of threats of other cuts. So I think you'll find it's the present Government behind it in a machiavellian way.
I agree that we're paying exorbitant salaries to so called "Celebrities" both on the TV and the Radio making them multi millionaires in an instant, but there has been a move to cut back on world wide services, proposals for the BBC to even submit certain new reports to the Government for approval..........that's the wrong road. Cut back on the "Celebrities" and reduce the salaries.
The BBC isn't just a national network, it's a hugely recognised global organisation that actually makes money for the UK. I don't like the format of the News as it is now..........focusing on around 5 items and continually repeating them all day, the world is bigger than 5 items.:dunno::coffee:

OH, but come on now, the BBC has had things to itself for too long.

Personally I dont care if the rest of the world listen to it or not.
If they do, then perhaps we should start charging them a licence fee?

The BBC comes over very biased, in my opinion, on quite a few things, being over PC is the most obvious, along with using centimetres, when we all know its metres and millimetres.:snork:

Time they had to work for their money, but, cut back on the so called celebrities and nobody would watch it, but then that wouldn't really matter, would it? as it doesn't matter to them what the audience think, the money still rolls in.

And if the government are cracking down on them all I can say is, carry on.
Its a millstone around our necks.

And if they dump the Met Office for some tin pot amateur weather forecasters with sea weed and pine cones, then it just shows the integrity of those over payed idiots running the show.

I parted company with my television, therefore the television licence four and a half years ago and haven't regretted it. I now get my accurate weather forecast from reading a jet stream map on the web, the only drawback being the lack of temperature prediction. That's not a problem though, the temperature is always rubbish here.

The BBC export a lot of programmes and make something over £150 million p.a. profit on them. This is fed back into the kitty of money from licencing. I don't know whether weather :heehee: forecasting is part of their exporting.

At 4.30 - 5.00 a.m. this morning I watched both the BBC and the Sky News forecasts. BBC are saying we'll get a lot of rain today and Sky are saying the rain will miss us. So I'll take the Sky forecast :blue thumb:

Has the Met Office not recently invested in a new system to help improve accuracy of forecasts?

I guess the BBC will be examining the bottom of a tea cup
                            for their forecasts.

I will continue to use the Met Office website.

And I am also happy to be paying my monthly Sky subs.
Some people might think it is expensive.
But I get sport, movies, news, kids programs (for the family) factual programs etc
                            Good value imo

The only programs that I do watch on the BBC is Match of the Day, and Gardeners World (which could be so much better)

BBC were correct and Sky were wrong. :noidea: It's been peeing down.
