I'd be interested to know what people's opinions are with regard to the likelihood of giving money to beggars being connected to them losing their lives (as the link I gave in the OP suggested .... "may contribute to their early death"). I realise this must be a guess but I query whether giving the odd £1 coin can make such a difference as to bring about a marked difference, i.e. sufficient to buy enough of the drug to do damage. However, I realise there is a cumulative aspect involved regarding if everyone did the same.

Why is it assumed that giving a pound to a beggar will lead to him/her buying drugs and not food or hot drinks??:dunno:........not everyone "on the street" is a drug user/abuser:doh:. I would think to give any realistic, informed opinion of such a matter would require a lot of research of authorative evidence or actually gaining experience of what it is actually like to beg and be homeless.:coffee:

Smokey Joe's / Greasy Spoon, fry up cafe's

Kipper = Royal Marine = two faced and no guts :-)

        Back on subject
There is a blind beggar, plays a keyboard on Saturdays in local town
People chuck in lose change and sometimes £1 coins
At five o'clock he packs up puts his keyboard under his arm and taps his way
along the street and round the corner, to get into his new BMW then drives off

Many a penny maks a muckle

Now don't you go insulting the Royal Marines, Jack.:nonofinger::heehee: I used to have to train Marines on the radar equipment for the Rapier missiles used in the Falklands War. I'd tell them that they were doing well learning but would they please stop holding hands on leaving the Lecture Room:dunno::heehee:

It is easy to dismiss the homeless today as being mostly junkies or alcoholics. So many do not fall into that category. Perhaps it might be a way to ease our conscience when we do not want to give/help out in any way.

Here is some insight into the many causes of homelessness (and, whilst I have reservations on taking to drink or drugs if homeless, it is totally understandable as a form of escape)

@rosebay I must agree wholeheartedly with this. I find your interpretations and conclusions quite bemusing and you seem to ask opinions whilst almost never accepting the other person's viewpoint.

Although I'm sure you don't intend it but some of your comments come across as preaching or condescending and you're gradually losing us from the thread (apart for non-related humorous comments).

I'm not sure of the relevance of your last link as it's a survey taken in a society that, as far as I'm concerned, doesn't bear much of a correlation to England today. :dunno:

I think I shall concentrate on some other threads now - my head hurts! :wallbanging: :)
