I seem to have developed a new obsession with Hydrangeas. Once I develop an obsession I tend to look for rare or less common varieties. This is my latest addition - Hydrangea macrophylla Avante Garde. The blooms grow up to 40cm across. This time of year the Hydrangeas are just going over, but though I'd take some pics next to my more normal sized 'Sabrina'. Blooms Difference in leaf sizes It has a single stem so I can grow it into a tree shape
Very nice...you must be proud. I just use ericaceous feed on mine and they bloom well. Presumably you do more than that?
They are very recent additions so I can't take any credit I'm afraid - the Sabrina came a few weeks ago and the Avante Garde arrived yesterday, already in bloom. Not feeding them until spring - for now they are just in multi purpose compost, but will be fed with Growmore. Don't like blue flowers and although white Hydrangeas apparently don't change colour, I'm not sure about the Sabrina as that has pink edging
That is impressive Will be interesting to see if it continues with this next year. Or the impressive size is due to it being forced.
