If the top is spikey it's a varigated holly, the bottom looks like a varigated ivy

 

He he! Thanks for that. I was quite sure about the ivy. Ho hum!

However the other one is not holly like. I've managed a quick pic as it's stopped raining. Cheers.

You've cracked it, oh wise one. Thanks so much. It's one of dad's plants that never did well on his balcony and always looked like dying off. I picked it up one Christmas probably about 5 years ago. We brought it over here and it's done so much better for the last year in the garden. All the best, Russ.
