Another week, another show. I will be pretty much entering the same classes as last week with a few exceptions. I am putting a couple of Begonia blooms in the cut flower class. They can be a bit hit and miss as they don't always take kindly to cutting. If they are still alive in the morning then onto the show bench they will go.

Pleased to report that the two Begonias survived long enough to pick up a first for the red and a third for the yellow. They also provided a talking point, as it was the first time as far as anyone could remember that Begonias had been displayed like that at this particular show.
All told I was more than pleased with my haul of cards, six firsts, five seconds and one third.

I believe it's really important to keep these shows going, too many kids have now idea where stuff comes from.

And equally important is for those who can win prizes (or even just grow decent fruit & veg) to pass on how to grow it.

Now what do you do with a 60 lb Marrow , is it edible at that size ?

@HarryS , The Begonias are Sceptre (red) and Golden Hind (yellow), both from Blackmore & Langdon's. I have had them for a few years but only grown them as multi stemmed pot plants, so the blooms on average are 6" across. If all the cuttings I have taken make a viable Corm I should have some stock to play around with next year. The intention is to grow a few on a single stem and produce one giant bloom.
              Watch this space

Billybell, well done all your flowers look fab. There is a chap I know from my days as show secretary for our local area ,I will have a word with him and see if he still has his little black book,he was a keen show man in Dahlias and Chrysanth's.He used to have all his stopping date's from when he first started showing, fingers crossed I will see if he can help.
