We don't have gas so it's only electric which we could switch supply of.
I am getting inundated with emails promising me massive savings if I switch supplier (we are with Scottish Power since moving here 13 years ago probably on bog standard rate). I know sweet FA about this switching business. It all seems far too good to be true and expect there is a catch somewhere, there usually is!
Would be really grateful for any information as to whether it is such a great idea and if going for a fixed rate is the best option. We don't use huge amounts of electric as our heating (most) is via either oil or wood but there are 3 adults living here 2 of which are retired and therefore at home most of the time.....well I'm out in the garden most of the time! I'm always rather suspicious of hard sell stuff and "there's no such thing as a free lunch" is ringing in my ears a fair bit these days with so many dodgy deals/scams about. Thanks.

I switched my supplier to OVO just over 12 months ago , I think @**Yvonne** uses OVO as well from previous posts . Savings from nPower rates was about 15-20% and no problem changing :blue thumb: Not sure if OVO is available nationwide yet.

Good advice @**Yvonne** , at the moment the MSE Energy Club has three offers, cheapest switch, cheapest long term switch and cheapest green switch, something there for everyone I think.

Thanks all, just spent about 1/2 an hour trying to find a telephone number for Scottish Power Customer service (they obviously don't like people phoning up) so I can find out what our consumption is to make an accurate comparison. During my search I have discovered that Scottish Power's customer services have been slated so looks like I will be on the phone listening to the likes of Vivaldi for the rest of the afternoon. They better not have "your call is important to us" interspersed with the classical music as that will definitely put me in some mood:). From what I've gleaned and you kind souls have said it looks on the cards that Scottish power will have 1 less customer by tonight! Off to listen to Vivaldi and will have a look at my seed catalogue while waiting to get to speak to a human being. I'll have a look see about OVO, they may not cover me tho as I am in the frozen North!

Sorted. I am now in the process of switching to a fixed price for a year with E-ON. Funnily enough it was a email from moneysavingexpert, the same as @**Yvonne** suggested which had the best deal for me. This gardening website never fails to come up with some members who gives sound advice on so many matters gardening or otherwise. The potential electricity saving will no doubt be channelled towards something horticultural!

This is why I have stayed with Ovo even after my fixed deal finished. They are responsive, honest, managing your account on line is a dream and the pay 3% interest on credit balance.
Glad you got something sorted Silu.

Just for info:- I think must power suppliers do 'Live Chat'. Usually a quick response to enquiries.
