    Hi Guys,
Took the plunge and at 26 I finally moved out of mummy and daddies and with my fiancee we bought and moved in to our first house. I have wanted my own garden for a while and something I can make my own. I am a car mechanic by trade so "playing with flowers" is a mile away from what I'm used to and my knowledge is slightly more than stick it in some mud and see. How ever with this forum and youtube it's expanding daily.
The garden as well as the house was very unloved but it's exactly what we wanted and we're aiming for... New builds just aren't for us.

2 befores and 2 taken this morning, bit messy as I've been off all week so have knocked things about and in the bottom left hand corner I am building a raised flower/ veg patch for next year.
Any advice/pointers, or anything for that matter will be gratefully received.

    Regards

    John

Hi and welcome! Congratulations on the new house and I hope you two have many happy years there.

The garden looks quite shady at the bottom. Maybe it's just the time of day, but if it's often in shade then choose veggies that will tolerate that (brassicas, Swiss chard, salad leaves, kale, beetroot etc) and consider having containers in sunny spots for other veggies and tomatoes, strawberries etc that will want a bit more light.

I'm still very much a beginner myself so hopefully others will be able to give more suggestions :)

It is a little shaded in the morning but from about 11 onwards it gets full sun.... in between the rain showers that is, as does the whole of the flower bed until 7ish in the height of summer. I was actually watching youtube last night of people growing potatoes etc in big 30L containers and such like which was good food for thought, interesting too.

Welcome to GC John. Your garden is looking good and a whole lot different to when you moved in. :dbgrtmb: I presume it faces south?

Just an idea. Are the buildings to the right both sheds? Even though the sun will come from the bottom of the garden it would become high enough during summer not to be restricted if you were to move the buildings down there. They cut off so much of that side of the garden, it would be better opened up as it's closer to the back of your house. Plants and veg's would have more sun too. :)
