    Hi,

Decided to repot a pot of lily bulbs today, but didn't go to plan. This year the 6 bulbs didn't do much if anything after 4 years of having them. So I thought lift them out and put new compost in.

Hmm, emptied the awful pot onto the concrete and searched for the bulbs. In the end, I found 18 bulbs, big and small. This has stumped me, as I haven't got pots for them atm and not sure where to put them. I've laid them in a tray to dry the soil to clean them up.

So, potting them up. Should I pot the small bulbs in 15cm pots and let them grow for a couple of season without letting them flower. They are about 5mm big. What about the others, what should I do with them, 1cm - 1.5cm? I can pot my original bulbs no problem.

    Thanks in advance.

I personally would have left them in the clump and just put them into a larger container, or split them into 2 or 3 clumps. You don't want to dry the bulbs out as Lily bulbs aren't true bulbs. They are basically a swollen stem with scales around the base of it. Once a scale dries out, that's it, it's dead.

You can if you want to, put the smaller ones into a pot and leave them outside until next year when they should be planted out.
