Maybe? Something had to be reflecting the sun back thru the clouds, it didn't move at all, although there was a high level plane nearby :noidea:

Thank you for the new pic - I thought you were referring to the little black blob at the top right!
        Most interesting.

I took some photos like this last night on our walk and mine was part of a rainbow showing through a cloud.I am more worried about the fact that you have a fork or spade handle on fire in your avatar:snork:

no, no, that is his bonfire in the background behind the spade handle, on his avatar.

If you look closely, you can see him sitting round the fire in his short pants, toasting his weenie, or is that a sausage?

There was a very strange cloud configuration last night, my neighbour thought they were vapour trails but they were far too thick and numerous.

The Meteorologicall explanation puts it down to the refraction in ice crystals in cirrus clouds, otherwise known as a circumhorizon arc, Fire Rainbow, or CHA.:dunno::coffee::snork:

We saw these also on our way home, around 6.30. The sun was too bright to take a pic, but on either side of the sun was a section of rainbow. We stopped in a layby to watch them for several minutes, and they were still in the sky an hour later. Then the moon rose, big and red. Amazing.

Sun dogs. They can also be seen near the moon and on ultra rare occasions may be linked by a huge circle called a solar (or lunar) Halo.
