Last year I relocated a four year old Gunnera to a new position...It took well but the leaves this year were nowhere the size before the move.I shall soon be cutting the leaves down for the winter which will leave next years shoots at or near the surface.

Over the year the freshly prepared site has settled and sunk and the plant is now in a depression.
What I want to know is can I build a mound of manure rich soil over the plant a couple of feet high...will the new leaf shoots push upwards through this next spring? I need to bulk up the soil as much as possible because three feet down is solid sandstone so roots can only spread nearer the surface....and I want to provide as much nutrition as possible for next year.

I dont think its too much to be concerned by. If you moved it, you would have damaged the root system so its probably put alot of its energies into roots rather than leaves. It may also be that the soil at the new location is not as moist as the previous location, it can vary alot within the garden.

I would just look forward to next year, I expect it will go nuts!

The area was specially prepared for the Gunnera with a poly sheet three foot down on top of the sandstone to form a reservoir.
