@Sheal - of those three, no contest - the HP255 G3 :blue thumb: Currently showing as £190 on Tesco's site, which looks a good deal to me.

Shortly after you get it, you will get the option to upgrade to Windows 10, which I suggest you do as it is a bit lighter on system resources than 8 and a lot nicer to use.

Thanks @fat controller, strangely I was thinking the HP might be a little cheap and cheerful. I don't want to buy something that won't stand the test of time, I'd rather spend a bit more. I was actually leaning towards the Asus as it has a Pentium processor.

It won't set the world alight, nor would I expect it to be keeping up with the pace of life in five or six years time - but then, that applies to all three.

I reckon you should easily get 3 to 5 years out of it for your uses. Although they get looked after, my machines tend to get a very hard life in as much that they have high usage and do loads of multitasking - hence I tend to over-spec to ensure I get a good few years out of each machine

The Pentium processor in this case is the poor relation simply because it is the older spec

I upgraded to Windows 10 last Friday and un installed it this afternoon. I have tried to like it for four days (it took me that long to get on terms with Windows 8) but I can't, I absolutely hate it. It is full of features that I do not want or need and it is so hard to access all of the things that I do want.
Just my opinion but the love affair is well and truly over for me.

Thanks again every one for your input. :dbgrtmb:

I'm going between you and my son @fat controller :) and you would have thought with three computers to choose from, two of us would have chosen the same, no we all chose differently and for different reasons.

Right, one thing is for certain now, it's going to be an HP. I've chosen two to look at, if you would run your know-how past them please I would be grateful. :)

I wasn't sure if the first one here had a speaker, that is a must because I need to Skype regularly. My old computer didn't have one and a mic was awkward.

@Sheal, that is a toughie - both are very closely matched to be honest, and yes both have speakers :)

My instinct is to go for the first one, given it has an Intel processor - however, the AMD is twenty-odd quid cheaper....

You really are splitting hairs between the two, and I doubt you would be unhappy with either of them

I think my brain was addled last night @fat controller. :) I didn't mean speaker but microphone.

HP are generally to the fore when it comes to multimedia and webcam use, so I would guess that they do have built in microphones; one thing is for certain, they do have a combo jack that takes a microphone (which in itself would further infer that there will be a built in condenser microphone, as it already has the relevant hardware to handle it); For the money they are being offered at, they are a bit of a steal to be honest - I paid nearly that amount for my monitor alone!

Thanks again FC. :dbgrtmb: I'm just waiting on comeback from my son then I will make a decision on one of them and let you know tomorrow. I'm not doubting your word on any of the info you have given me but my son knows my requirements as far as computing is concerned and I'm putting both yours and his opinions together. :)

Okay, decision made and an order has been placed @fat controller. :) I've gone for the cheaper model, the HP255 G4, not because of price but the fact it has a 4 core processor. It was actually quite a hard decision to make between the two as they were very close in comparison.

Thanks very much for your guidance everyone and particularly to FC, you certainly know your computer stuff! I'm indebted to you. :dbgrtmb:

I just upgraded the wife's acre netbook to a ssd card from a Hard drive, works with win 7 pro.
This was as the 3 year old acre kept crashing.

I did this as I have a coolmaster which has a 120 gb SSD card and a 1tb hard drive, held together with 8 gab ram 2 gab graphics card but only a i3 processor which is next on the list.
This is all in a small form case with 3 fans.

I did very little @Sheal, and it was my pleasure - the very least I can do for one of my GC friends :)

HP are utterly solid, reliable machines, and I am sure you will be delighted.... Setup advice is but a PM or email away should you need it though

I've had a bad experience with DABS; they didn't deliver and didn't honour their agreement...........and didn't the boss go to prison for some really bad unmentionable things? I would never buy from them again.
