I put together my two large hanging ones today for the deck and two colorful pots, one for the stoop in the front and the other for the entry to the porch area. My hanging ones have plants in them that will dangle out.

I did them just like they did on G-World:gnthb: I lined each basket with an empty compost bag,but then lined that with newspaper and filled them with non peat compost with a little Growmore mixed in. I water them with Butt water and because they are hung in the G-house over other plants the excess water runs on to them.
I prefer to see Moss on rocks and stone walls Cyril:wink:

    Love your balcony rosa :thumb:

All four baskets ready and waiting for the end of the month, have had a 16 inch wall basket on my front wall for 6 weeks now and it has filled out beautifully with trailing lobelia across front and sides and mini scarlet red trailing petunias in the top, both sets of flowers are about a week away from blooming and I can`t wait :yho: :D

My baskets are all up now, looking healthy but I am away next week and wonder if they will be ok when I get back. Will try to get my son to water them :lollol:

"i have 6 of these Voodoo Fuchsia and am planning to put 3 in each basket"

That's quite a lot of "plant real estate".

I don't do baskets, but I had tubs at the front of the house, so similar I guess.

I have 2 fuchsias per pot (they are about 18" - 24" diameter, so I expect much larger than your baskets) a standard at the back, and a trailer at the front. I also put 2 or 3 Petunias and 3 Trailing Lobelia in each tub.

I use a granular "slow release" fertiliser, mixed into the bottom 2/3rd of the compost, and also some water-retaining gel (I don't put it in the top 1/3rd because it just pushes its way to the top and blows away / the birds eat it).

I usually keep any baskets Ive planted indoors under glass until the temprtures are consistent and winds low. At the moment I wouldnt want any out were as in the past id have put them out three or four weeks back.

I line mine using hessian sacking with a bit of black polythene inside, the base of the polythene slit so as excess water can drain.

I dont like water retaining gell being non biodigradeable so normally add a water retaining layer of 2" of bark and sand to the base with compost on top and osmocote granules mixed in.

I tend to simply plant using one coulor of impatients as the last well and provide IMO stunning coulor and value with minimal atention.
