Well how does everyone feel about recent events however once the dust has settled then i guess the voters will have the last say in the Euro which are shortly and next generlal election and if some of these people get back into Parliament then it will be the fault of the voter i know what i will be doing they dont understand about the real world neither do they care.

Disgusted by it all - and even more by so many of them bleating "but we didn't do anything wrong". "Pigs with their snouts in the Trough" would be a more apt description of politicians than "Honourable Members" now.

TBH a general election being called now might be the best for the country, but its been proved that the majority of politicians don't have the good in the country foremost in their minds.

I worry about the rise of extremist parties with the population's disgust in mainstream politics however. You only need look at history to see it's happened before.

Is being a member of parliament the safest job in the country at the moment?

You can effectively steal thousands and thousands of pounds from your employer, (us the tax payers) and not have the decency to show any remorse. And still keep your job!

The 'green rule book' says something about the claims being above reproach, and that public money can not be misused, and you should get value for money. Do you think that all MP's have acted like that?

If your company had a set of 'rules' like that, and you were seen to be over stepping the mark, we all know that you would get sacked. If your an MP, you just pledge to re-pay the excessive amount of money!!

We are just seeing the last 4 or 5 years of these claims..., dare I ask about those MP's that have been in Parliament for the last 20 years?

I don't normally comment on political issues, but I think that MP's this time have well overstepped the mark, and they have not got a clue about how to put it right. Gordon should call a general election, ASAP!

As much as I despise the current bunch, the truth is it is pretty much all parties that are fiddling the system.

What really annoys me is when they tell us they haven't broken any rules. They made the rules. It is like me saying 'I'm allowed to rob a defenseless old granny', then robbing a defenseless old granny and arguing that I hadn't broken any rules.

How can it be ok to buy a house on expenses? In my job, if I have to spend time away from home, the company pays for a hotel, but only a cheap one, and it is not mine at the end of it.

Surely if you are pondering whether or not to take a job, you look at the basic salary package and then work out if that will pay for your cost of living then allow you a bit left over. We don't look at the basic salary and then think 'ok, that's my pocket money, I can put all my food, accomodation, entertainment, adult movies (in the case of Jacqui Smith), Kit Kats etc etc on expenses.

Surely the only fair way to pay a politician would be to set a fixed cap on the basic salary (say £40k which is still far more than most earn) and make them pay for everything they need out of that. Fair enough if they have to go to Brussels or somewhere for a summit, then let them claim airfares for economy class at off peak time, and let them stay in an Ibis or Novatel, and give them £30 per day sustenance allowance in line with the HM Revenue and Customs guidelines.

It saddens and angers me to think that the very people you give your country to to look after are bleeding it dry.
I would love to now the total that as been creamed off our taxes over the last 10 years.
This is only one thing we no about.
What else will come to light?
No wonder the country is in such a mess.
I love this country ,it really makes me so angry.
I doubt I will ever vote again.
I don't trust any of them.
    What a mess.

You can use the Freedom of Information act to find out.

As for other stuff, my company works on a government contract, and I can tell you that they pay audit firms, a bunch of accountants with no understanding of anything technical, an absolute fortune to check up on us. This is why government projects always run way over budget. Its because they never factor in the millions they end up paying the auditors to make sure we get value for money.

You need to vote, even if its just to spoil your voting paper. Too many people fought too often and too long to give us all the opportunity. Think what the suffragettes did, for example...

Personally, I am itching for a candidate in the forthcoming elections to come canvassing to the front door. I really, really want to give them what for! The MEPs are even worse...and we won't get a chance to see what expenses THEY claim for, as they voted against making the information public!

The next General Election should be interesting. All a candidate contesting a seat need do is publish his opponent's expenses claims in his campaign leaflet and he'll be onto a winner, I'd say! I'll be interested to see what my local MP has fiddled the system for...if excessive, he ain't getting my vote:mad:

    Makes me sick.

It isn't so much the stealing, its the hardfaced-ness and shameless manner they take now they've been caught.

Right or wrong, the british media is a fantastic institution-and any attempts to gag it (which they threatened to do) should be forcefully resisted.

One comment suggested if you were working for a company and one was making claims which were incorrect you may get the sack well i dont think any MP will be removed this way.

Ive been suprised at the general suprise!!!

Having worked for a few MPs before I can safely say that all without exception have been the tightest, most pedantic and pathetic specimens you could seek to meet.

The irony of finally getting paid by Couts cheque two months after doing a £300 job and after two payment reminders and a final letter mentioning small claims court still leaves a bitter taste.

    bunch of chancing B******.
