I cant see any forum areas for Crysanth's or threads so posted in here, apologies if i have missed the correct area..

basically i got a bargain at my local Morrison's where Crysanth's were reduced from £3 to 29p! see thread..

    http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/50-off-packs-of-flowering-bulbs-at-morrisons.105576/

I was looking at buying some for my allotment to use at cut flowers next year.

I have never grown them before.

Can someone give me a few basic tips please?

Just need to know if i need to do any ground works before planting them like you do with Gladioli, when to plant them outside, feeding, and more importantly seen as i have them about 6 months earlier than planned, what to do with them going into winter?

I'm going to gradually harden them off outside my house over the next few weeks but leaving them in their pots

    any advice is greatly appreciated

    cheers

Hi Graig, what I did when I was showing Crysath's and what I was shown to do with them when they where finished flowering was to cut them down to around 9ins (old money:thumbsup:) wash the roots to clean of all the old soil and any grubs or bugs, then place into trays ,cover roots with soil and keep frost free.In January they where placed on a heated bed and cuttings where taken when ready, cuttings where placed on heated propagator to root, when rooted they where potted into 3ins pots, when ready to pot on they where moved to 6ins pots until ready for planting out.

        Thanks for the reply!

Just a quick question, once I've cut the tops off to leave 9 inches of stem, do I cut the roots down a bit too?

Hi Craig,no don't bother to trim the roots, just wash of all the old soil etc. them just place them in trays, cover roots with compost and keep frost free.
