I must admit that I was surprised when I saw the big red X from you, especially after reading your posts.

Very true - I get the same services as the bloke who has no intention of working - who is happy to sponge off the state - and is quite content for me to continue to work and pay taxes to fund his lifestyle .

Yet, I will get sod all benefits - where's the justice in that?

It's time for me to stop paying to bring up his 12 kids .

Perhaps we should take the 'Chinese' approach - 1 kid and that's all?

A lot of companies pay below minimum wage and take tips and bonuses into account. They are the ones that I don't support and try not to support those employers that pay only NMW. The supermarkets have started to get their fingers out and are already approaching the NLW with Aldi and Lidl leading the way. They are both aiming at slightly above the NLW by next year.

I agree that the Lords is a good curb on the excesses of the Commons. :blue thumb:

I agree. The system is not fair at all. But it's a lot better than in many countries.

M yes Mr Kandy did get the married mans allowance as did fathers but didn't fathers also paid less tax because they did have kids or is that something I have got wrong as I can't remember that far back and I seem to remember it got stopped anyway to save the country money so yes we do get sod all:snork:

Yes my Council Tax does pay for the Police,Fire, and Dustbin collection but it also goes towards the schools that we don't use because we have no kiddy winkles and in our village we are a.so having to pay £100 a year Presept or whatever it is called to help fund the village hall that we never use:sad:

Does anyone know if parents still get a wedge of cash given to them by the goverment for the baby's trust type fund (can't remember what it was actually called) and do parents still get child care vouchers given to them or is that something else that has changed?

I have just been having a Google and see that child benefit is £20.70 a week for the 1st child and £13.70 a week for the 2nd child so that is a nice bit to help out the family income.

No wonder a lot of the parents in my village can afford to eat out and order in food several times a week, they don't know they have been born:biggrin:

And why was there more choice of jobs?
Because we expected less, and immigration had not forced the rates of pay down so low as it has now.
If they can import labour at low pay rates they will, and at the same time say the average Brit is lazy, some are, but some just want, no need, a decent rate of pay in order to survive.

Tax credits should not be a way of covering up lousy pay rates, from greedy employers.

The child trust fund was scrapped years ago.

Yes parents get family allowance or whatever it's called.

The argument that people without kids pay for those that don't is unfair on two counts.

Firstly, I as a parent could argue that my tax goes towards infrastructure projects that I will never use but others might. I guess in theory we could have a system where we pay no tax, but then dig into our own pockets every time we need a new road, or a new street light, or a new railway to get us to work, but that would be silly.

Secondly, my kids might one day pay into the system that funds your pension and healthcare, and all the infrastructure that you'll still use after you've stopped paying into the system. Maybe (hopefully not) my kids might serve to defend the country you live in, if we get dragged into another war when you're too old to fight. Any society that doesn't look after it's future tax payers, it's future workforce, is an utterly failed society.

I do not know which Parish Council you pay the precept of £100 pa to as "the middle of blighty" could be almost anywhere but the precept to our Parish Council represents an average of about £25 for each household in the village.
Far from only "funding the village hall" our precept pays to maintain the War Memorial, bus shelters, the park and children's play area and two playing fields (one football and one rugby. We also supervise the allotments in the village, clean water courses, ponds and ditches, maintain public rights of way and signage, maintain the public toilet and maintain footpaths and bridleways.
Parish Councillors do not receive pay in any form whatsoever except for the Clerk to the Council who receives a (very small) retainer.
Now I think that is good value for money.

We pay approx. £60 per household. Have no street lights, no public toilets, no playing fields, no park and the village hall is a self-funding charity. Even without all those the parish councillors do a good job for no pay. :blue thumb:

                  Hi Jack,

You're not alone, mine keep disappearing too.

Also, I'm not getting to see a lot ( probably about a third ) of photos either.

I haven't heard of RedX for years, do they still make it then? I used it in the sixties when it was 1p a shot!
I take it that yours was a mistake too :phew:

You lot should try using the forum via tapatalk on a mobile. You only get the like button, and its a whole new world of tedium and chore. No chance of me accidentally disagreeing. The option is simply not there.
