I've had two already and both were pretty hopeless. A Black&Decker one which kept snapping lines and on which the bump feed didn't work. The latest was an Argos Qualcast which lasted about a dozen lawn trimming sessions, had similar problems to the B&D until the motor vibrated apart, which was terminal.

So reluctant to purchase another until I know I can get one which will last and operate correctly. It won't get horrendous use as it will be just used for lawn edge trimming.

    Regards

That's a common problem with most electrical strimmers, ch, and the problem lies with the line and not the strimmer. My answer to it is to get a 2.4mm line which is used on petrol strimmers, [I have one for places where I can't use mains power], and they work fine.

Pop in to your local Stihl dealership as they do a few electric ones and a battery one which will be much better than some. I've an old FSE 81 which is well OTT for simple border work on a small scale but it's bump head is very good and on par with the other Stihl brush cutters I use.
The dealer will run through the various machines for you so that you have an idea what to expect.
