I've used Calico as a contrast paint instead of white, it takes away the harshness.

In some paint stores, they have a returned paint section. this is where the "husbands" selected the paint, took it home, after an almost divorce had to bring it back. So these cans are at almost give away prices. Some are high end paint that , you may like the color, or that if cut will an additional gallon of white might do the trick.

Everyone has their own ideas so you're likely to be even more confused after reading these answers :heehee:

We tend to have pastel coloured walls with a slightly different, but matching colour for the ceilings, but we tend to have a lot of pictures hanging up.

I definitely agree with Lori that you always should have your furniture, carpets and curtains in first and then decide on a colour for the walls that complements them.

@redstar , now what is wrong with a neon pink , orange and lime green colour scheme in a room . Looks great to a mans eye

Home decor is not just a personal thing but also a cultural thing. I've been looking at Canarian properties lately and as far as decor goes most are very much :yikes:

I would swap the orange and the pink over personally, and remove that scary figurine

I love this. I might pinch some inspiration from it next time I decorate.

well if some brave soul needs that color around them. then go for it. as long as that brave soul will know that re-sale value will not happen unless he changes it all.

Unless the house is just an investment property, or unless there are plans to move within the next few years, then I don't understand why so many people worry about how their taste affects the value of the property.

A house should be a home. It should be the one place in the world where you know you can do pretty much what you please. It should be somewhere where you can honestly say, I love it, I hope other people like it but if they don't, tough.

But some people can't see beyond the decoration Clueless and can't imagine how it will look when they've re-decorated. Others are so fussy I don't know why they attempt to move house at all. I think they believe everyone should have the same taste as they do.

I would like some of that really retro/futuristic furniture that you would see in programmes like Space 1999 :)
                    Hang on a minute ...... retro/futuristic???

I was at a cottage that had a kitchen similar to this. They had done everything retro hippie. It was a super place to be. Their other home was more staid and conservative so I guess this is where their play side came out. Lots of fun!

there is the other side of the coin. sometimes you can decorate/remodel your house above what the market will bare for the location.
