Jiffy's knife looks a far better option Zigs , than playing at blacksmiths .
You can also give Ermintrude the Yak a well deserved pedicure .

I trained as a smith for a year a long time ago. I did alright. I wished I'd taken it more seriously though, instead of filling much of each day with pranks of unprecedented stupidity.

I nearly got fired (both figuratively and literally) when I used the lit oxy acetylene torch to light a cigarette. And when I discovered that holding it by the pipe and swinging it round like a lassoo made a fairly realistic fighter jet sound effect.

I'd buy a hook knife zigs.

I use that brand of carving knife (two cherries as thier logo but can't remember their name) and it would be a shame to ruin it by heating it up.

If we have an item that is not used that can be modified into an item that is used, then, imho, that's a good thing. Its a kind of recycling. At the same time, a person gains knowledge from doing something like this. For me, there is also a great deal of satisfaction to be gained from using something that I have made myself. Hopefully, I will get some satisfaction from a spade I am planning to modify within the next few weeks.

Having said that often, its often not worth doing economically.

Hook knife as JJ says the right tool for the job, or the hoof trimming knife second substitute for the job :dbgrtmb:

A pole lathe! Hows that turning out for you (excuse the pun)?

You need a bowl gouge for that if you want to waste the bowl out on your lathe. I have one spare that I don't use as it's a bit naff and has a short handle on it. You're welcome to it if you want it zigs. You could probably make it sharper than i can.

Why not turn up a new handle for it? Or do the unthinkable and buy one....

After seeing the pole lathe, a nice wood turning thread would be nice...
