:) Hi Gaz and welcome to GC.

Could be a Passiflora, possible caerulea (the blue/white one) ... is there one nearby? It's the bane of my life here and popping up everywhere ... wish I'd never brought the horror from the UK.

    Thank you Victoria.

A friend of mine gave me a couple of seeds from his Tree Peony in October 2007 which I planted in this pot. About 12 months ago I tipped the pot out but there was no signs of life. I put all the compost back in the pot and kept it down the garden.

I was surprised to see this new growth.

Could it be the Tree Peony?

Hi again Gaz ... I've never had a Tree Peony but I saw them at Ventnor Botantical Gardens when I lived on the IoW and they were wonderful. I think Peonies are gorgeous but too short lived for my liking ..... years ago in Bucks we had one and it developed and we came to Portugal for two weeks and when we went back it had basically bloomed and died ... that was the end of my love affair with them. I basically only 'do' evergreen and long blooming ... so, I can't answer your question.

I think lollipop here is a Peony fan and perhaps she will come along and tell you if it is or is not a seedling.

Enjoy it whatever it may be ... because hopefully it will be a beautiful flower. :)

    Thank you.

If it is the Tree Peony seedlings then I will be 'over the moon' because it has taken nearly 2 years.

It is a Tree Peony, I grew some from seed a couple of years ago they took 12 months to germinate, I nearly gave up on them.:)
They are very slow growing so don't hold your breath waiting for it to flower.:D

I have a few seedlings and they look the same, but to be totally honest there is no way I could say for sure that it is absolutely a peony-anymore than I could be sure if it was a tree peony or a box standard herbaceous one ( as if one exists..........lol).

Strongy's right about how long before it will flower-bank on seven or eight years, and then some more before they are sizeable.

The Yellow tree paeony self seeds often... have a hunt around the base of an established plant at this time of year...and you might find some
