We have moved into a house with an established garden full of perennials. We had empty veg beds and so have planted potatoes etc. BUT.. while I was clearing the edge of the bed, which joins a chain link fence I found a lot of root. Nothing unusual as we have three lime trees behind our house. But the roots got bigger and bigger until I realised I was pulling up a plant in its own right! Agh! I asked my neighbour and he said that there was a Tayberry bush and a Blackberry bush there. So, I have planted the roots over in an are where we already have raspberries and stawberries coming up, with a view to making a defined fruit area. But will they grow? I have always thought that those rambler type plants were quite hardy, or might I have killed it off?

If you think it will grow, what do I need to provide it with for this years growth? Canes? And what do I do at the end of the season, cut it all down to grow again next year?

    Sorry, so many questions!

Dunno about Tayberry, but Blackberry is a robust plant. Best to train along horizontal wires (i..e between a couple of posts). You want about 8' - 12' between blackberry plants - so they are basically going to grow 4' - 6' in each direction.

Don't know about the tay either but blackberry should flourish and take over if not kept in check

Tayberry is a cross between a raspberry and blackberry - treat it like a raspberry.
