@Jungle Jane - I looked it up and its a Doyenne du Comice pear. Seems like I might have stumbled across a nice variety after reading about it too...
Sorry @Jungle Jane missed your question earlier, the tree is a cheapy pear tree I picked up from lidl last year, can't remember the variety...
