Not me.... Celia next door is 101 years old today.
I have been round and sung happy birthday to her with a card and few bottles of Guiness to keep her going for awhile.
She remembers stuff from way back and I recorded a conversation with her awhile ago reflecting on her early times in York.
    Very interesting to listen to.
She still does what she can in her garden but has a guy in to cut grass and stuff.
    HAPPY 101 CELIA
    Have a wonderful day

As Paladin says, Celia is very fortunate to have as a neighbour someone who is thoughtful enough to look in and spend some time with her, wish her a belated happy birthday and at least there are folks far and wide thinking about her as a result of your posting Capney :gnthb:.

[IMG] Goodness gracious me! What an age!

I was thinking that when I saw those 3 (or was it 4) old soldiers from WWI at the Cenotaph on Tuesday. All were over 100 and one was 112! Just think of the changes he's seen!

    Motor cars
    main roads and motorways
    street furniture
    telephone
electricity in the homes leading to
    .........radio
    .........record players and radiograms
    .........television, video recorders and dvds
.........washing machines, spin driers and tumble driers
    .........refrigerators and freezers
    popular music
    aircraft
    radar
    international travel
    Channel Tunnel
    space travel
    nuclear fusion
    discovery of DNA
    advance of medicine and sciences

and not forgetting the good old internet!

I'm sure there is a lot more but even that list boggles MY mind. No idea what it must do to theirs.

Pleased to say that Celias memory is perfect and knows what its all about these days. Like a lot of elderly its the body that is failing and she has had her fare share of hospital stays but recovered from them all. Including a cancer growth on her head.. an amazing lady

    Happy Birthday Celia ... xx

My aunt in Harpenden turned 104 this month and still lives on her own with two daughters (in their 80s) a shout away ... I don't think I want to be that old to be honest ....

Celia has outlived all close family by a long margin. She has a niece who is the nearest and she is in her 80s.

That must be her payback for her long life.

My prayer to God is that I never outlive my children.
