Celia next door is an amazing 102 years old today.
It is now 11:30 and she is not up yet.
I think It might be because of the mixture of sherry and guiness she had yesterday....

Happy birthday to Celia next door:)

102 eh? I bet she's seen some changes happen. I'm only 35 and already I don't recognise the world we live in compared to when I was a kid. Mrs Next Door has lived through two world wars, entire countries come and go (ok not geographically, but in terms of their name, leadership etc), numerous scientific ideas get ridiculed or in some cases proven (I believe 100 years ago they didn't know that air ran out or that it got very very cold if you went to high up, hence NASA's poor monkey and the Soviet dogs that came back from their rocket flights frozen and asphixiated).

I bet Celia has a few interesting tales to tell.

She is finally up and about and we have had the opening of cards and pressies ceremony.
Its not unusual for her to get up late, she often wont go to bed until after midnight.
And yes, she can tell a tale or two of her early years in York.
I am a key holder and I have often gone round well into the day only to find her snoring away with the fairies.
I am prepared to find that may be a different situation one day.
Lets hope she makes 103. I see no reason why not.

I am a key holder & carer to the old boy next door to us.. He sleeps late sometimes & if I have gone in he is always still away with the fairies too, but you do have to be prepared for the other one day too Robert, I totally understand what you are saying..

    Happy birthday Celia!

I was always impressed that on reaching 100 you got a telegramme from the Queen.
A golfing friend's mother reached that age a couple of years ago. It's no longer a telegramme of course, it's a "telemessage."
You have to apply for it (it isn't "automatic") and it isn't even signed by the Queen it's a printed signature. I thought that was rather cheap.

I mean how many a year would she have to sign?

Digressing.. having read an earlier post. I'm reminded of many changes.

My earliest memory at all was when I lived with my parents in south london. I must have been about four. I and my mother were running up and down the hall of our house, I was laughing and giggling at this "game." It ended with us lying on the floor with her on top of me.
She was initially in a blind panic as a V1 had "stopped" overhead.
It came down 100yds up the road.

A significant number I imagine. I read something years ago that the reason the Queen doesn't do them personally anymore is because she was having to do too many. We must remember that this is a tradition dating from a time when you'd be lucky if you made it as far as your three score and ten.

Happy birthday to your Celia, Robert.

Kedi's and my aunt (mother's side) would have been 105 yesterday but sadly died last month. She lived in Harpenden, Herts, and still lived on her own. Her three daughters, all in their 80s I believe, are still alive and kicking ... hope it's in the genes ... :yho:
