12 foot sunflower!!

    well a head has appeared its not huge but not as small as a dandelion like i expected..its about 12 foot tall..i am sure the birds will enjoy eating it..

    That's a smasher wildflower. Just watch out it doesn't fall on you!!
    Ours only reached 8 or 9 feet, but most of them had really big heads about 12 or 13 inches across. We've grown 10 so should have plently seed for the birds this winter.

    Wow WF, thats huge. I lost my contenders for 12 feet to wind earlier in the year, but my small one at 8 and a half feet is finally opening. Next year I will stake them and have another go. :D

    Cheers Roy, my bananas seem to get in all the shots, another couple of weeks and that banana stem should be in flower :D

    HI BM there you are have you been away on your holls. nice to see you back, now for business. one month I bought an eddible banana plant and I thought it wae dead, but low and behold a new leaf has sprung up 1ft long,musa chini-champa and musa basjoo rubr from a tropical www.turn.it.tropical.co.uk [​IMG]

    I did stake it but its so near the house it gets a bit of shelter also..I only use comfrey or nettle plant food which i make myself..I am dreading getting it down will have to chop it off at the knees first.. :rolleyes:

    WILDFLOWER, LAST YEAR MY 4 SUNFLOWERS REACHED A DIZZY HEIGHT OF 18 FT.AND I HAD TO CHOP IT DOWN IN 4 PIECES. THIS YEAR THEY HAVE NOT DONE SO GOOD.

    Well done M, mine is about 5' and I dug it up & turned it to face the garden not the fence :D It seems to be doing well still, and I do give it a kiss every day [​IMG]

    I have some seedlings coming up too, do you think it's too late for them to get fully grown?

    jay..yes probably too late unless the weather is kind and the frosts hold off maybe you will just get small ones..i had a poppy appear this week so anything is possible,,
