Unfortunately it is now illegal to sell, give away, allow to escape, Gunnera x cryptica was put on the banned list last summer/autumn. At the same time it was announced that all G manicata in the UK was a hybrid now called Gunnera x cryptica. Lots on line about it.
You may not be aware of the recent legislation around the planting of the large-leaved gunneras Gunnera – your questions answered
I'm surprised to see you, I'm doing OK, how about you, still growing the nanas? Trachy looks good, mine have proliferated and I've got 8 decent sized ones now scattered around and a decent sized Butia.
Good mate I'm still jungle massive :D I've got 4 mature females and 4 males now dotted about the seedlings grow like weeds now. I've also found seedling tetrapanax Rex growing in my free fern trunks recently which I've been potting up. Gardening is still a big passion
That's good that you are still growing and it all looks impressive, its strange how you start out growing something and after years of nurture it starts growing like weeds, I've been know to glyphosate some of the Trachy seedings, there are so many. Never had seed off of Tetrapanax though, mine just sucker everywhere, ripped a load out yesterday.
Having read that I still cant work out why it has been banned? "How invasive is G. × cryptica? The hybrid produces few seeds, is only rarely found outside of gardens, and is not known to spread vigorously." As usual DEFRA aint got a clue.
