Yep, that's my old TomTom. He's a precious lad (aren't they all?) but wasn't surprised when the vet said he needed a descaling because he wasn't eating well and was losing weight.

So took him in 10am and rang at 1pm as instructed but was told they had 'an emergency' and vet would phone me when she was done. I though 'strange' :th scifD36:

Ultimately she phoned me at 4.45pm and told me that the emergency had been Tom! Seems that when she got a good look in his mouth, she found that SEVEN teeth needed to be removed including an upper canine that had snapped off below the gum (and a previous vet had said it didn't need to have anything done () and all these teeth had fused to to bone so she had to go drilling for them. And you know how long the roots of cat's upper canines are - if not, they are looooooong! :ouch1:

Well, amazingly he was okay. He had oodles of stitches, an IV for the duration of the anaesthetic and she gave him nerve blocks in his mouth for pain relief plus several pre-loaded syringes of veterinary morphine to give him. He had a rough few days and 5 days later I could smell he had an infection in his mouth so another trip to the vet and this time she actually let her look in his mouth - usually doing such a thing is WW3! She found one of the wounds had broken open and was infected so more jabs and more kitty morphine!

But by Christmas day (day 10) he suddenly was his old self again, scoffing food like he was starved and sharing scraps of turkey from my dinner! Back up on my chest and giving me head butts and cuddles galore! So nice to have him back again!

This is one of his head butt snuggles from a few years ago but it hasn't changed much! Notice how he has his paw on my shoulder so he can pull himself tighter against my chin!

wow a lot of work for the sweet old guy.

two weeks ago my Teddy, age 8 went in for his first teeth cleaning. All was great, no gum issues, no broken teeth, or any pulling needed. I have two more in time will go in for teeth cleaning also. You could see when Teddy got home how hungry he was, but also that his mouth did not feel quite right. I let him nibble on a few pieces. He is also my sweetie.
