A very nice assortment. Are you growing them mainly for the bees? From your list Cosmos, Sunflowers, Cornflowers, Calendula and California Poppies should go down a treat. I grew them in my last little garden and the bees loved them. I'll be making a wildlife garden in my new garden pretty much from scratch but that will be after the house is sorted. :)

          @Rustler and @Fern4 :)
I grow everything very close together pretty much crammed and bustling up into each other and loads of different varieties a real jumble of colour and scent sation's :spinning: All the garden is set out into "rooms" which you access through each other ...all for my passion which is nature... namely bumbling buzzybees ..well all bees are fab to me and i have soooo many species that live alongside me ...well more accurately as i say i live in a field alongside them ;) also i adore butterflies, dragonflies, Hawkmoths and ladybirds:wub2: all which again i am sooo blessed to have visiting BUT it has proven a BIG responsibility as i now this time of the year grow and plant a continuous steady supply right up to the first frosts to ensure a possible good return for next year, plus sowing in advance for next year all the bi-annuals.
I also have a high regard for weeds and adopt a " WEEDS WELCOME" approach. So its very much my labour of love at the moment as i will once again open the "Salad Bar" very soon to all my buzzy flutterby chums :hapydancsmil: and i cant wait to see them all again.

What a lovely description. It sounds ideal. I was taking the Mickey but am trying to provide the same effect in a smaller space. I've just bought another 6 covered seed trays to put on window sills and in cold frames to grow my collection of seeds from magazines. God knows where I can plant them but as you say, close planting is the answer and will be interesting to see how the get on. All the best. Russ.

My last garden was jam packed with plants for bees and butterflies. I've brought most of it with me as I had to grow in containers. :snork: At the moment the crocus are quite popular with bees. I've seen quite a few now in the sunny weather.

I know what you mean! I tried to have a steady supply too and will do the same here when I finally get growing. At least I have stuff in pots so I should get some butterflies too. :fingers crossed: :hapydancsmil:

I wish i could spot more bees around me. Havent seen one yet and during summer they are few and far between hence low fruit yields ?
Cant reaaly complain though as we are lucky as theres loads of different birds in the garden. :)

My indoor sowing of sweet peas were put out into a make-shift cold-frame-with-large-vents effort last week.

I've also been dotting around various sunflower seeds into different pockets of the garden. The variety "Vanilla Ice" will be direct sown next month.

Still not much going on due to cost (other priorities) and the fact the forever borders are yet to be given their permanent site.

                    Great thread idea

I am so far behind, it is not funny - and all because I have been holding off for the weather to improve.

So far, I have sowed (all in the past ten days):

                      Datura Angels Trumpet
                      Ricinus Carmencita
                      Tomato Mandurio
Lobelia (trailing variety, can't remember the exact one, but it germinated really fast and I now have two trays of miniscule seedlings that are like a wee carpet)
                      Sweet Pepper

I need to get my finger out over the next couple of weeks and get my petunias started at the very least, and then get all my dahlias, lavatera, malva zebrina.............. the list goes on!

                        Hi FC,

You're not the only one, all I've done so far is Sweet Peas. I'm starting to panic a bit now, I've probably got about 30/40 different sorts to sow. Plus, I'm only halfway doing the Fuchsia cuttings and cutting the ones back that I've kept in the green over Winter.

Not to the same degree, but I will no doubt be doing quite a few. I was going to grow a load of seedlings for two large flower beds at the front of my workplace, but as they have short paid me to the tune of roughly £1300 this month, I have no spare cash to buy the seeds or compost for them - tough luck is the answer for them this year then.
