We planted a new lawn last year but unfortunately it seems that during the hot autumn, it got infected with leather jacket. The turf supplier arranged for it to be sprayed at which point it then went worse and completely died. However replacement turf was arranged, the original was all dug up along the pesky bugs and reprepapred.

We laid fresh again at the weekend and I want to give this one every possible chance. I'm watering it daily and just wondering if it's worth giving it some miracle gro lawn feed which I bought previously to try and help, although worried of using too much. There are some gaps as well on the sides of the turfs were they didn't butt up very well but assume they will go soon.

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner Stuart.

I'm sure the person that supplied your turf was aware of it's condition as he would probably have had other complaints, I'm glad to hear he replaced the lawn for you. :) The infestation was obviously very bad to have killed the lawn.

Newly laid turf shouldn't be fed as it needs to concentrate on rooting down into the soil. If you feed it now that will make it concentrate on putting on top growth instead so I would leave feeding until spring of next year.

The gaps between the turf you could fill will some soil or compost and the grass will eventually fill the spaces. If you can attract starlings into your garden they will do a fine job of keeping the leather jackets down. :)
