An 82 yr old lady faces jail, for sweeping her leaves onto road for road sweeper, for which she knew nothing about.?

It's was classed as 'Fly Tipping' . When she checked her gardener was photographed sweeping the leaves for the council to collect.

If he was any sort of gardener, surely part of his service was to put the leaves/take them away at his own expense?:th scifD36:

Well it serves her right for committing such a heinous crime.

If she doesn't want to do time, she should have thought about it first, and chosen some other crime like stealing a car, or mugging someone for the mobile phone, then she'd have got away totally free with nothing more than a mild telling off.

I think a couple of years at the rowers bench in the galleys will bring her round to 'our' way of thinking!

        Cheers, Tony.

Hmmm... it's the Daily Mail's usual type of content focused on the little old lady and how she has lived there all her life and paid her taxes well that's peachy but for the council workers to actually stop and take photo's how big was the pile of leaves? admittedly if there from trees on the road then the council should be responsible but why couldn't' she get her gardener to sweep the leaves into a pile on her own property? or just take them away to be composted?

To me it sounds like she knew what she was doing was wrong and is in a huff because she was caught out... council letters are always over the top and dramatic

Sorry if I upset anyone here, but as to the 'little old lady' ( a financial director of her husband's printing company), could she not afford to have someone a bit more upmarket to clear her leaves?:dunno:

What did he do last year with the leaves? :dunno: There must have been the same trouble?

If the leaves came off Council trees - or the neighbour over the fence - should you ask them to come round and pick up their rubbish?
Would we be required to insure them whilst on our property - or insist they provide their own 3rd Party Insurance before commencing their recovery?

I think it would be great if everyone over the age of 65 went into their local council office and gave the staff there a good firm talking to. There are few things scarier than having a walking stick pointed at you by someone that isn't joking. I'd rather face a scruffy chav who has never lived, and never had a chance to build any strength or experience, than someone who has prevailed over war, poverty, sorrow and hard manual labour:)

There was a case in our local news a few years ago where the local council cut the subsidy to the buses for a local village of mostly elderly people. They got together, and cut their council tax payments by an equal percentage to what the council had cut from the bus service. There were legal threats and arrests, but the biddies stuck to their guns. They won, and rightly so.

Before councils (or anyone for that matter) take on a biddy, they should pause to think, they beat off one of history's most infamous regimes, are they really that weak?
