The thing I find most disturbing about this is that the eighty-five year old had a twenty year old passenger in the car. Didn't he think to shout 'not that way, Gran'? But maybe she is hard of hearing.

I think he was shouting that, they were both treated for shock.

I know that crossing well as we would go through Brockenhurst to-ing and fro-ing to the IoW. I can't imagine how she turned onto the tracks ... she must have been having a VERY senior moment ... and as for the young man ...

I live in the area, it affected me and it meant a not unpleasant detour through the Forest. First guess is that gran might not have been sure and the kid said "Do what the sat-nav says" while he had his MP stuck in his ear. LoL Not the first time!! Unfortunately they couldn't have a cup of tea at the station while they were waiting for the pick up truck 'cause the cafe has gone! Would like to add smillies but they're not there!!

How anyone can confuse a railway track from a road I just do not know

I know the roads are bad with potholes etc so a bit bouncy, but not to notice a long ladder of four lines with railway sleepers is beyond the pale

I think Cajary is right. It's probably a question of 'the satnav is always correct'. I'm convinced some people would drive their car off a cliff and into the North Sea if the satnav told them to do so.
