    It was my wife's birthday, so since this afternon, there's been a constant procession of well-wishing visitors. The last has just left.

    I think I've made more cappuccinos than Starbucks.

    So for anyone I've missed out....

    Thanks Doghouse, but I only drink tea, any chance of a proper builders type brew?

    I don't mind what it's in - it's got to be strong with a dash of milk - you can leave the tea bag in - none of that namby pandy earl grey rubbsih though.

    It's far too late to be serving Cappuccini. Get a grip man, it's Gordon's time.

    Can't encourage my wife's friends to drink and drive can I?

    So no need to share the "week-end dinner sauvignon blanc" I started tonight.
    Can't see it lasting past "Match of the Day" though.
    Good job I don't have to share it with the misses, she's on Welch's black grape juice, that's strong enough for her.

    Next year you can borrow my magic wheelbarrow, an excellent form of transport if ever there was one.

    I'm in the same boat, my better half looks at my beer longingly as I move towards social confusion. She gets the lifetime of pain while I get the lifetime of bumping into coffee tables. She's an expert on non-alcoholic cocktails though. We haven't had Welch's for a while, well reminded.

    One of my golfing pals is an ex-coal mining engineer, we call him "Welsh Eddie."

    He's a fund of amusing stories.

    Here's a classic. He was out for a meal with his wife and the conversation went like this.

    "I think I'll have another pint."

    "You don't want another pint!"

    "Really? I could have sworn I did!"

    There's a lot of winding up that goes on between friends on a golf course.

    My favourite response is when a partner hits a really bad tee shot and says;

    "That's the worst drive I've ever hit!"

    I try to "console" them by replying;

    "You're being too hard on yourself, I'm sure it's not!"

    Eh?
